Target Audience

The target audience for my audio project are young people who are interest in dance music, especially music from the 'breakbeat' genre. The show will have content on new artists, upcoming shows and news from within the breakbeat genre thus appealing to people who are interested in that type of music. The overall production of the show will have a sophisticated sound, with the show starting with a jingle, the show being introduced by the host and then a guest introducing their track. This will appeal to people interested in dance music because the jingle will have the same characteristics of a dance music song, the guest will be someone influential from the breakbeat scene and the song being played will be of the breakbeat genre.

TEXT 1 - RADIO 1 DANCE WEEKLY PODCAST

This radio show starts with a jingle which is comprised of the words "Radio 1 Dance Podcast" being repeated with various Sound FX in the background. These sound FX have been used because they are sounds that are often associated with the Dance music genre. The dialogue and sounds instantly tell the listener that the show is associated with the dance genre and also what it is called. After the jingle there is a loop of a dance song that is faded in, and the DJ, Pete Tong, introduces himself and tells the audience what is going to be in the show. Whilst he is speaking the loop is constantly played in the background to further convey the particular genre of the radio show. Between each section of the radio show a jingle is played, this is done so that the audience is constantly reminded what radio station they are listening to and it also informs listeners that have just tuned in to know what show and radio station they are listening to. As the host interviews other artists, their music is played in the background to add further recognition of who the artist is and to also give the audio more depth, this audio changes so that it is associated with what the artist is talking about. This particular show is aimed at people who are interested in dance music and this is conveyed throughout the show. This is done by using jingles with dialogue and sound fx that are associated with dance music, by playing music of the dance genre, by interviewing dance music artists and also by using a host DJ who is also a dance music artist.

TEXT 2 - RADIO 1 ZANE LOWE: PRESENTED BY BIFFY CLYRO

This radio show starts with a jingle which is comprised of various sound FX and the words "Radio 1" and "Zane Lowe" being said by different voices. The sound FX are mostly distorted guitars and this shows the audience that the radio show is based around the rock music genre. For this particular show a band called "Biffy Clyro" were hosting it, this band is of the rock genre and this adds further evidence to the fact that the show will be playing and talking about rock music. As the band introduce themselves, the intro to the first song can be heard in the background. This allows the band to talk right up until the main part of the song plays, this is done so that there is no pause in between introducing a song and it actually being played. Between significant parts of the show, e.g when a guest comes on or a competition is announced, the same jingle from the start of the show is played. This is done to emphasise the radio station and to advertise it furthermore. The majority of the music played on the show is rock music and this communicates to the audience that the show is based on rock music. The hosts of the show support this further more.

TEXT 3 - RADIO 1 ANNIE NIGHTINGALE 17/01/2009

This show is hosted by Annie Nightingale who is a renowned break beat DJ. The show begins with a standard dry radio 1 jingle, that repeats the words "Radio 1". This has been layered over a breakbeat drum pattern to form a break beat style jingle. This shows the audience the style of the show that is beginning to be broadcast. After the jingle the beat goes straight into a song, this shows that the show is going to be largely music based and there will be minimal dialogue. The music played at the start shows the genre of the music is breakbeat and that will be played and talked about throughout the show. After the first song is played there is a dry jingle that has been layered over the top of the previous song being mixed with the background song that will be played whilst the host introduces herself. The jingle informs the audience the name of the DJ host and the radio station (Radio 1). This jingle is also played during big build ups right before a drop in the song. When the host is speaking over the background music the volume dims slightly so the hosts' voice is predominant and the music doesn't interfere with what she is saying. The music is restored to it's normal volume when she stops speaking.
