Evaluation Round 2

The media product I have made successfully conforms to the main conventions of radio show production. The jingle I have made follows the conventions in that it is catchy and gives the audience information on the show and the radio station. It is kept short to entice the audience so that they keep on listening to the show. The jingle has been produced using sequences that are often associated with dance music, this is done so that the jingle relates directly to the content of the radio show. During the time that the host and guest is speaking there is a background track, this has been looped so it is playing continuously during the time that there is dialogue. This makes the overall sound a lot fuller and keeps the audience interested. The host of my show has the alias 'Wagwan', he is a DJ so this will attract audiences furthermore due to his fame. The guest on the show is a DJ who is renowned in the breakbeat music industry and he is introducing his new song on the show. This adds more value to the show and makes it a lot more appealing to the target audience. The structure of the show conforms with the conventions of a radio show because a jingle that includes information on the show introduces the show and it then cuts to the host introducing his show. The jingle has been mixed with the backing track so that the continuity of the show is maintained and there are no gaps between the jingle and the main content of the show. Between the time that the guest introduces his new song and the actuall beginning of the show a jingle is played, this is done to remnd the audience of the name of the show and radiostation furthermore. The way in which the host introduces the show, the content and the structure all challenge the general conventions of a conventional radio show.

The media product I have made represents particular social groups in many different ways. The host is one feature that represents the dance music social group, particularly those who are interested in breakbeat music. This is because the host is a famous DJ from within the breakbeat scene and this would relate to the target audience directly. The content of the show also represents particular social groups, the music is from the breakbeat genre and the target audience are listener's of dance music. The guest on the show is also a famous DJ and this would relate to the target audience furthermore as they would be inclined to listen due to his fame. The song that the guest introduces would also relate the show to the audience furthermore due to the song being from the dance music genre and the audience are people who would have an interest in the dance music genre.

A media station like the BBC would distribute my media product because it would want to widen the audience of their radio stations furthermore. Already at the moment the BBC runs DJ shows with famous DJs hosting the shows, these shows are broadcast after 12am because this is when people who are fans of dance music are most likely to be listening. Smaller stations that are fully dedicated to the dance music genre would play the show I have created at any time because their audience is interested in dance music and they would be willing to listen to the show at any time.

The audience of my media product is anyone who is interested in dance music and particularly the breakbeat genre. This would be primarily young people as there are not as many old people that listen to this type of music and have the same interests as young people. In saying this I'm not ruling out the fact that older generations will be interested and will listen to this type of music. The younger audience would be attracted to this show due to many factors, which include the fame of the DJ host, the fame of the guest and the content of the show, being the new track being introduced by the guest. This show would not appeal to anyone who would normally listen to BBC Radio 2 or Radio 4 due to the type of content and the way that it has been produced.

To attract the audience of my show I have produced the jingle so that it is catchy and relates to the show and radio station automatically. This means that when someone of the target audience tunes into the show they are automatically reminded of the name of the show and station and they immediately know the type of content that will be present in the show. The host and guest would be attractive to the audience due to their fame and their position within the music industry. The language that is used by the host and guest uses a much more slang and is urban, this would relate to the audience and would attract them furthermore.

From the process of constructing this product I have learnt many knew things that are need to make my audio project. For production I used Logic Pro which was a very new program to me and required me to learn how to use it professionally to produce the archive sound clip and jingle music. This program allowed me to use pretty much any instrument and to add many different effects. The next piece of software I used was Ableton Pro 7. I had previous knowledge using this program and I used it to layer clips made in Logic Pro to structure the archive sound clip and for additional effects on the jingle. To record the voices for the show I used the school's broadcast system. This system has high quality microphones and other broadcasting software which allowed me to record professionally and in high quality. Finally I used Garageband for post-production purposes, this allowed me to layer each clip together so the jingle, background clip and archive sound clip are all mixed together and are at the same tempo to maintain community.
